Park West Griffith Apartment Fire Overnight

Early February 19, 2020 around 2:12am Griffith firefighters were dispatched to 1431 N. Glenwood Ave. for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke across the third floor of the structure as well as a working fire in apartment 2C. Fire crews conducted a thorough search for victims and quickly extinguished the fire, according to Deputy Fire Chief Don Hill of The Griffith Fire Department. The apartment of origin suffered extensive fire damage while the remainder of the building suffered significant smoke and water damage. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, Hill stated.

All residents evacuated safely and no civilian or firefighter injuries were noted as a result of the fire.

Park West Apartment personnel and the American Red Cross are working with displaced residents to ensure resident’s immediate needs are met.

The Griffith Fire Department was assisted by the Griffith Police Department, Griffith VEST, Superior Ambulance, Highland Fire Department, Gary Fire Department, and the Lake Ridge Fire Department.
