Portage Police Say Man Killed His 91 Year Old Mother
On Sunday February 23rd, 2020 at approximately 7:11p.m. the Porter County Central Communications Center received a 911 call from a male subject stating that he had just killed his mother, according to Sgt. James Maynard of the Portage Police.
Portage Police Officers responded to the home, located in the 5800 block of McCasland Ave.,where they located the victim, Dixie L. Trumble who was 91 years of age. Ms. Trumble was found inside the residence with obvious head trauma. Officers provided immediate medical care but Ms. Trumble died at the scene, Maynard stated
.
The suspect, identified as Charles H. Trumble 59 years of age, lived in the home with the victim. Mr. Trumble was present upon officers’ arrival and he was ultimately transported to the Portage Police Department for interview. Mr. Trumble declined to provide a statement to detectives. Crime scene investigators were called to the home and the suspected murder weapon was recovered. The body of the deceased was released to the Porter County Coroner’s Office and an autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday February 25th.
Charles H. Trumble has been charged with the murder of his mother, Dixie L. Trumble, and he is being held at the Porter County Jail. Although no motive was given this appears to be an isolated incident between family members and there is no reason to believe there is any danger to the community, Maynard said.
The Portage Police Department extended their condolences to the surviving members of the Trumble family.
