Portage Police Seek Info On Wanted Male
On April 24th, 2020 at approximately 1:00pm officers with the Portage Police Department were dispatched to the 2100 block of McCool Rd. in regards to a report of a suspicious person who had been seen walking around several homes in the area, possibly soliciting door to door, according to Portage Police.
Upon arrival the first officer pulled in behind the suspect vehicle in his fully marked police SUV. As the officer stepped from his vehicle the suspect vehicle sped away southbound on McCool Road disregarding the stop sign at Portage Avenue. The suspect vehicle continued southbound while passing traffic and forcing vehicles off the road at speeds over one-hundred miles per hour. A second Portage officer deployed Stop Sticks at the intersection of US Hwy 6 and McCool Rd but the suspect vehicle was able to avoid them. As the pursuit entered into a residential area still traveling at speeds over one-hundred miles per hour the involved officers terminated the pursuit due to the risk posed to the public.
Even though officers were no longer pursuing of the suspect vehicle it was observed several more times traveling eastbound on County Road 700 North at high speeds while running the red light at State Road 149 and the stop sign at Meridian Roadwhich is over four miles away from where the pursuit was halted. The suspect vehicle was later found abandoned by the registered owner in the Westville area.
By reviewing various video surveillance footage from homes around the initial scene and interviewing witnesses the suspect has been identified as Jamie Allen Jones (37 years of age). There is an active arrest warrant for Mr. Jones for probation violation on the original charge of Forgery a level 6 felony. The Portage Police Department has additionally charged Mr. Jones with Resisting Arrest with a Motor Vehicle a level 6 felony, Driving with License Suspended an A-misdemeanor, and Reckless Driving a C-misdemeanor.
