Possible Road Rage Shooting In Hammond
Hammond Police are currently investigating a possible road rage shooting that occurred shortly after 5 PM on 165th westbound with the victims vehicle stopping near 165th & Calumet.
A witness described the black vehicle avoiding traffic in a turn lane near Columbia & 165th and speeding off. The victim continued westbound on 165th when a box truck pulled up and started shooting in the convertible. The box truck then fled the scene.
One male was transported to a local hospital with multiple gun shot wounds and succumbed to his injuries. The Lake County Coroner has identified the victim as Rajesh Bhagwandeen, 26, of Hammond.
165th was closed in both directions at Calumet for an extended time but has since been reopened.
