Sheriff’s Department Investigating Gary Officer Involved Shooting
On Sunday, June 26, 2022 at approximately 4:42 PM Gary Police Officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of Johnson Street in regards to a male with a gun who was making the residence unsafe, according to Gary Police.
During the course of contact with the male an officer was forced to discharge his weapon striking the male, police stated. The male was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injury, according to sources. The identity of the male has not been released.
The situation has been handed over the Lake County Sherrif’s Department for processing and investigation.
The Gary Officer will be placed on mandatory desk duty until the conclusion of the external investigation, Gary Police stated. No further information was immediately available.
