Munster Police responded to Wendy’s on the 8000 block of Calumet Ave for a gun shot victim call around 10:30pm Monday. It appears at this time a Red Jeep SUV crashed with multiple bullet holes in it, in front of Munster Tobacco & Hookah. The Red SUV was crashed into an Audi across the street from Wendy’s where also windows were shot out on the store front Of Munster Tobacco & Hookah.
Munster Police Lt. John Peirick told Region News at this time they have no indication of injuries. Peirick stated he is questioning individuals as of midnight at the station. Police could be seen picking up shell casings in the parking lot of T-Mobile located in the same strip mall. Witnesses reported hearing at approximately 15 gun shots at nearby Target as they were finishing last minute Christmas shopping. Multiple agencies including Highland and Dyer Police came to assist as the incident was occurring we saw. We will continue to update on this breaking story as information becomes available.
Update – Multiple sources have indicated police have numerous people at the station for questioning. We believe at this time no one was hit by gun fire however two guns have been recovered at this scene as pictured below.
Update #2 –
Munster police have determined there were numerous shots fired both inside and outside of Munster Tobacco & Hookah, Lt John Peirick stated Tuesday Morning. At this point there are no reports of injuries although there is damage to the building and two vehicles, Peirick said. The incident is believed to be isolated and there is no danger in the area, Munster Police said. Munster Police have interviewed a number of people and are still actively working this incident and ask anyone who has information about the incident to call the Munster Police Department at (219) 836-6600

They must have been selling more than hookahs, and tobacco. They don’t just shoot up a place to rob it. Time to close it down.

The guy who owns it was dating a girl and making threats toward her family. He was Abusive and very controlling. He made threats of raping and killing her cousins wife and daughter. He’s also selling drugs in that place. Shut him down.
Wrong.Nothing more is going in and out of our store. It’s unfortunate that people go right to drug’s so not true. Personal issues with a girlfriend dating owner that’s simply it..these. people handled thing’s terribly I agree. I will say it again it anger’s me that people go right to drug’s we have wonderful customer’s and we certainly wouldn’t put our customer’s or our business in jeopardy its ridiculous. Remember before you start accusing you have the story right remember alway’s three side’s to a story.
