Single Vehicle Fatal Rollover
Around 2:30 AM on Sunday August 21, 2022 Portage Police units responded to the area of the Willowcreek Bypass regarding a single vehicle crash, according to Portage Police.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 2004 Jeep Liberty rolled over onto its roof in the middle of the roadway. The preliminary investigation shows the vehicle was northbound from the area of the Toll Road entrance when it lost control entering into a right-hand curve at the south end of the bypass. The vehicle crossed all lanes of travel before striking the guardrail on the west side of the roadway. This collision resulted in the vehicle rolling onto its roof. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene, police said.
The Portage Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team was on scene and conducted the investigation. The roadway remain closed for a few hours until their investigation was complete. Initial observations indicate that excessive speed was factor in this crash, police stated.
The Porter County Coroner has identified the deceased as 39-year-old Felix Anselmo of Portage.
