St. John Police Emergency Hire

The St. John Police Department has been approved to establish an Emergency Hire Eligibility List. The St. John Police Department will be accepting applications for a Probationary Police Officer.

Applicants are required to be an Indiana state-accredited police officer with membership in the Indiana Public Retirement 1977 Police Officers’ Pension Fund. Proof of current membership in the Indiana 1977 Police Officer’s Retirement Fund will be required from the applicant.

Applicants who qualify may obtain an application in person at the Administrative Assistant’s Office, located on the second floor, at the St. John Police Department; 11033 W. 93rd Avenue, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Only qualified applicants who submit complete applications will be considered.

Completed applications must be returned in person to the Administrative Assistant from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The deadline to submit applications is 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2022. The office will be closed on Friday, April 15.

Upon the successful completion of probation, officers may be promoted to First Class Patrol Officer based on prior police service.

Per the 2022 Salary Ordinance, St. John Police Department’s Probationary Officers earn $64,602.72 ($29.58 hourly) during their first year. A Second Class Patrol Officer earns $74,583.60 ($34.15 hourly), and a First Class Patrol Officer earns $80,458.56 ($36.84 hourly). Annual earnings are based on 12-hour shifts working a total of 2,184 hours per year.
