A Hammond Police Officer was involved in a police action shooting Thursday November 4, 2021, at approximately 3:30 a.m. in the area of Orchard Dr & Rhode Island in Hessville.

Hammond Police Department & Hammond Fire Department were dispatched to this location for a welfare check and possible vehicle fire, according to Sgt. Officers immediately began to render first aid to the suspect, Fifield stated.  The suspect was transported via ambulance to the University of Illinois Chicago Hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition.
