State Police Respond To Fatal Crash Sunday Morning In Gary
At 3:30 a.m., the Lowell Regional Dispatch Center was notified of a single vehicle crash on I-80/94 at the 7.6 mile-marker (near Burr St.), according to Sgt. Glen Fifield of the Indiana State Police said in a release Sunday.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Madry shows that a white 2008 Chevrolet Impala was east bound when it left the lane of travel and struck the center median wall. A passenger in the vehicle sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. The passenger was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, Fifield stated. The driver, Andre C. Walker, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Alcohol may have been a factor, police said in a release. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police stated. The Lake County Coroner was called to 80/94 at 4:00am Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Aleesha Walker, 29, from Merrillville according to The Lake County Coroner.
