Stolen Car Chased From Illinois Ends In Foot Chase Near Lake Station

One juvenile suspect was taken into custody after a pursuit from Illinois by a helicopter ended on 80/94 just East of Ripley after the suspect lost control of their stolen car with two missing tires.

The pursuit began in Illinois by the Cook County Sheriff Helicopter Task Force and traveled to Gary being followed by the air unit for over an hour. Sauk Village Police picked up the pursuit for the air unit to the state line and terminated. The suspects drove to Gary where they stopped for gas at Burr & 25th while the air unit followed. The suspects filled their stolen Mercedes with gas and took back off East towards Porter County but not before Lake Station & Hobart Police attempted to spike the vehicle but failed. Officers began to pursue the suspects to Burns Harbor before turning around to head back West. Indiana State Police successfully spiked the stolen car.

The suspects crashed their vehicle and jumped off Westbound 80/94 at the 16 MM on foot where a search went on where only one Juvenile was taken into custody the other two remained at large. A handgun was found in the vehicle. Stolen items from Glenview and Skokie were also found in the vehicle.
