Stolen Car Pursuit Ends In St. John Saturday Killing Passenger

Around 10:45 AM Saturday Lake County Sheriff Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop in Crown Point on a vehicle with fictitious plates that was ultimately found to be stolen out of Chicago Friday, Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez told RNS.

The driver fled from Sheriff Officers leading police on a chase through neighborhoods at high speeds before crashing in St. John near 93rd & Clarmont where the suspect lost control on a S curve hitting another vehicle, a tree, and then ending up in a ditch, Martinez said.

The male driver was taken into custody and later transported to a Chicago Hospital for injuries and a female passenger who was in critical condition was transported to an area hospital where she later died. The innocent driver of the other vehicle was also injured, police said.

The passenger in the stolen vehicle has been identified by The Lake County Coroner as Tiara McDonald, 28, of Calumet City.

Further information was planned to be released later Saturday.
