Stolen Durango Crashes In Lansing After Fleeing From Munster Police

Around 6 PM, Friday, a Munster Officer spotted a red Dodge Durango near Calumet & Ridge that was coming back stolen out of Chicago. The officer began to follow the Durango while calling for back up when the suspect pulled into the GoLo station on Broadmoor & Calumet. The driver acted like he was going to a fuel pump in what we believe an attempt to throw the officer off his tail. While the officer circled back around and back up was approaching the suspect took off with officers following.

The suspect continued to elude officers at a high rate of speed westbound down Ridge Road into Lansing. The suspect then turned southbound on Wentworth. While still driving extremely fast for the rainy conditions the suspect struck a median at the train tracks causing him to lose control and spin out of control into the path of a northbound Monte Carlo driven by a female driver. The rear end of the stolen Durango crashed into the front end of the Monte Carlo causing that car to spin around and pinned the driver in the car.
The suspect in the stolen Durango immediately bailed on foot eastbound down the train tracks.

Lansing Fire Department arrived on scene and extricated the woman out of the Monte Carlo. She was transported to Christ Hospital. The extent of the innocent drivers injuries are not known at this time but her father believed she had a few broken bones.

A Cook County Sheriff K9 was brought in to track the suspect in the rain but was unsuccessful due to the conditions. Lansing & Lynwood Police also assisted in the search. The investigation is ongoing.
