Suspects Ram Police In Stolen Car In Hammond Caught On Blue Net

On August 17th, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Hammond police officers received an alert through Hammond’s Blue Net License plate reader system that a stolen vehicle had entered the City of Hammond near I80/94 and Indianapolis Blvd, according to Lt. Steve Kellogg of The Hammond Police.

Officers checked the area for the stolen vehicle which was a 2021 Dodge Charger reported stolen from Chicago two days earlier. Officers located the stolen car with the matching license plate sitting in the parking lot of the Comfort Inn located in the 7800 block of Indianapolis Blvd. The stolen vehicle was occupied by two males so the officers surrounded the vehicle ordering the occupants out, Kellogg said. The driver of the vehicle then rammed the Hammond police vehicles in an attempt to flee. The driver was unable to maneuver the vehicle out of the confined space. The suspects were again ordered from the vehicle and the occupants were observed reaching for something inside the vehicle. Officers were able to gain entry into the vehicle and a Taser was used to apprehend the driver. The passenger was also apprehended.

Officers located two firearms inside the vehicle within reach of both suspects. Both suspects were arrested and are facing charges from the Lake County Prosecutor’s office.

Hammond Police commended their officers for the bravery and courage they showed in dealing with these dangerous individuals. They used Hammond’s Blue Net system and their tactics and training to perfection, Kellogg added.
