Three Illinois Juveniles Run From St. John Police In Stolen Car
At about 3:00 am Wednesday, a St. John Police officer was patrolling in the 9600 block of Sheffield, on the west side of St. John, according to Roger Patz Spokesman for The St. John Police. The officer observed a vehicle driving in front of him, traveling at an unusually slow speed. The officer ran the Illinois license plate on the vehicle and the return came back as a stolen vehicle out of Homewood, Illinois. The officer activated his overhead lights and the vehicle, a silver Hyundai, took off at a high rate of speed and the officer gave chase.
The suspect vehicle was able to drive around two Dyer Police units who were attempting to block the vehicle. The pursuit continued north on Hart St and Dyer Police became the lead units, calling out the pursuit. As the pursuit approached US 30, the suspect vehicle got caught in a snowbank, Patz told RNS. Three black male occupants baled out of the vehicle and ran, disregarding the officer’s commands to stop. The suspects ran through back yards and were eventually caught and taken into custody by St. John and Dyer officers. The recovered vehicle was released to Homewood Police.
The three were all identified as juveniles (under the age of 18), one from Lansing, IL, and the other two from South Holland, IL. The three were transported to the St. John Police Department where they were booked.
Charges will be presented today to the Juvenile Prosecutor for Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, (Level 6 Felony) Possession of Stolen Vehicle, and Unauthorized Entry of a Motor Vehicle Used in the Commission of a Crime, (Level 6 Felony), and Resisting Law Enforcement, (Class A Misdemeanor).
