Two Hammond Home Invasions Overnight

On February 10th, at approximately midnight, Hammond Police responded to a home in the 2200 block of 167th Street in reference to a home invasion, according to Lt. Steve Kellogg of the Hammond Police stated. Residents stated that they awoke to a black male standing in the bedroom looking around with a flashlight. The male demanded money and two firearms that were located inside a safe. The victims did not observe a gun but one was implied. The male fled the area. It is believed that the male entered the home through an unlocked window. The male was described as a thin black male, approximately 5’10” tall, dark pants, gray hoodie sweatshirt, gloves, and a thin mustache.

Approximately one hour later, police received another call of a similarly described male fleeing from a home in the 6400 block of Tennessee Ave. The witness reported that she awoke to find her door open and money missing from her wallet. She observed a black male outside of her home fleeing, Kellogg told Region News.

Detectives are looking for leads in last night’s home invasions and ask residents to check their home security camera systems between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. Any suspicious person should be reported to Hammond Police Department Detective Lt. Mark Tharp at (219) 852-2988 or Det. Lt. Mark Detterline at (219) 852-2962.
