Two Injured In Fight At Southlake Mall Stemmed From IL

On June 7, 2020, at approximately 3:14PM, Hobart Police officers responded to Southlake Mall for a fight, according to Detective Wardrip of The Hobart Police. Upon officers’ arrival, a 23 year old Posen, Illinois man was taken into custody for questioning and has subsequently been released pending further investigation, police told RNS Monday.  Two juveniles, a 16 year old and 13 year old, both from Sauk Village, Illinois were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.

In a video of the disturbance online you can see multiple people walking away bloody after numerous people engaged in a fight. Police believe this altercation was the result of a prior dispute in Illinois between these individuals. This is the second recorded fight this week at the mall after reopening from earlier protests that closed the area.

Sheriff Oscar Martinez told RNS Sunday, “This fight was unrelated to any protests occurring across the area.” About one month ago after several fights occurred after the opening of the mall from COVID restrictions multiple people were arrested as well for fighting. Southlake Mall did not respond back to questions concerning safety.

If anyone witnessed this fight or has any information please contact Detective Sgt. Steve Houck at 219-942-4399 or shouck@cityofhobart.org.
