Two Suspects Nabbed After Shots Fired
On November 4th at approximately 1:00 a.m. East Chicago Police responded to shots fired in the area of 4805 Indianapolis Blvd, according to Deputy Chief Jose Rivera of the ECPD.
Ofc. K. Cook and Lt. K. Harretos responded to the scene and observed a subject quickly leave the scene as they arrived. Officers caught up to the subject and detained him. The subject was identified as 29 year old Deshalon A. France of Gary, Indiana, Rivera said.
As officers were speaking to Deshalon France he became combative. After a brief struggle he was placed under arrest. Officers then recovered a 9mm semi automatic Glock 19 with a 30 round magazine from his waistband that was reported stolen out of Bloomington Indiana. Officers were also notified that Deshalon France was a convicted felon and did not have a valid gun permit.
As officers were still dealing with Deshalon France they heard more shots being fired in the area. Officer Cook immediately began to walk toward the area the shots were being fired from. Officer Cook then observed a male black subject later identified as 35 year old Deonte C. Rice of East Chicago standing in the rear of 4805 Indianapolis Blvd holding a handgun in his right hand, Rivera stated.
Ofc. Cook ordered Deonte Rice to drop the gun but he refused and ran inside the apartment building closing the door. Ofc. Cook used forced entry and chased the subject inside the apartment along with back up Officers. Officers located Deonte Rice hiding in the basement. Deonte Rice physically attacked officers and had to be subdued with a taser.
Officers recovered a black .380 caliber semi automatic Taurus and a .357 caliber Taurus revolver from the location along with numerous live rounds and spent shell casings. Both Deonte C. Rice and Deshalon A. France were transported to the East Chicago Police Department Jail.
