Update – Two Teens Stole Truck During Robbery At Gunpoint
On September 7th, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Hammond police were dispatched to the Days Inn located at 4000 Calumet Ave. in reference to a robbery, according to Lt. Steve Kellogg of The Hammond Police.
Hammond Officers arrived and spoke with a 17-year-old male from Merrillville who stated that another male subject pointed a gun at him and took his car keys and other property. The victim stated that the suspect and another male got into the victim’s car and drove away. A short time later, the East Chicago Police Department located the stolen vehicle in their city and attempted to stop the vehicle. The suspects fled and were pursued by the East Chicago Police Department into the City of Hammond, Kellogg said. The suspects were pursued near the 6700 block of Indianapolis Boulevard when their vehicle became stuck on the railroad tracks near 171st & Lindberg where two black males fled from the vehicle. Police searched the area and located the suspects a short time later.
A 16-year-old male from East Chicago and a 13-year-old male from Gary were arrested without incident and charges are pending. No one was injured during the incident, Kellogg stated.
