Weekend Crash On Wicker Near Lowell
On Saturday, 03/16/2024, at approximately 5:35 AM, police officers with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the 16100 block of Wicker Avenue for a crash involving 3 motor vehicles and serious bodily injuries, according to Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr.
It was determined that a Hyundai Sonata was traveling northbound on Wicker Avenue behind a Ford F150. At the same time a Ford Fusion was traveling southbound on Wicker Avenue in the same area. For an unknown reason, the Hyundai Sonata hit the rear of the Ford F-150 causing the driver to lose control, Martinez stated. The Ford F-150 continued to the northwest, crossed the center median and crossed both northbound lanes of traffic. The Ford F-150 then exited the roadway, entered a ditch, and rolled over. The Hyundai Sonata also traveled through the center median and then hit the Ford Fusion head on.
The female driver of the Hyundai Sonata had to be extricated by area fire departments. She was then flown to the University of Chicago Medical Center by medical helicopter. The male driver of the Ford F-150 and the male driver of the Ford Fusion were both transported to a Crown Point hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The cause of the crash is unknown and remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Department Crash Reconstruction Unit.
