Whiting Fire Destroys Building With Homes & Barbershop
A fire broke out shortly after 9 PM Sunday on 121st & Indianapolis Blvd in Whiting. Firefighters were called out for an appliance fire which turned into a structure fire within minutes. Firefighters arrived to find the back of the building in flames, according to radio traffic. The front of the property is The Manhattan Barbershop and the back of the property is home to multiple tenants. Indianapolis Blvd is closed in both directions currently.
While on scene the outside walls collapsed along with the roof while crews battled the blaze.
As of 12:30 AM crews are still on scene. Whiting was assisted from Hammond Fire Department, East Chicago Fire Department and Hammond EMA.
