Whiting Lake Front Park Heavily Damaged After Winter Storms
Whiting Lake Front Park on Lake Michigan took a heavy beating over the winter months as people got out this weekend to survey the damage. The damage stretches from the pier all the way down through Whihala Beach. Concrete lifted and dirt swept out in to the lake leaving sidewalks barely standing and boulders from the storm wall pushed into the parking lot. Clean up and repairs are expected to take a months according to officials. This damage is not just here in Whiting but the entire shoreline with the lake waters being at an all time high. In Ogden Dunes homes are currently being threatened along the shoreline as waves this week continued to wash away backyards over the storm wall.
Lynette Beno Resendez a Whiting Resident took advantage of the nice weather today to survey the damage. Lynette told Region News, “I think the biggest thing that shocked me was the erosion of the beach, there are portions of the beach that had 5-6 ft drop offs that are now flat. I was expecting to see that one of the concrete disks on the beach had fallen because the little cliff underneath it was already partially eroded, I did not expect to see that the cliff was leveled and the concrete disk was on the beach. That part of the beach is now level with the bike trail.”

But you still have the $18,000,000 MASCOT Museum, which I heard they spent the money from the settlement for the lakefront on! What doofuses.
