Gary Wind Driven House Fire

A structure fire call called in around 4pm on the 500 block of E 48th Ave spread quickly because of the strong winds Sunday. Firefighters arrived and encountered heavy flames on a vacant structure that were quickly spreading. Neighbors said the house went up so quick there was no saving it. One neighbor who told Region News he was next door grinding some steel when the fence between the properties caught and spread so quick he was unable to control it. The wind pushed flames and sparks across the street catching a tree on fire. Firefighters were extinguishing hotspots as of 6pm.
