WINTER STORM INCOMING FOR NYE

WINTER STORM WATCH ISSUED

[Thursday December 30, 2021 4:13 PM CST]

Confidence continues to increase in significant winter travel impacts on the afternoon and night of New Year’s Day and into early Sunday morning. A storm system will bring several inches of snow to much of the area and blustery winds from the north causing blowing and drifting snow.

The exact track and strength of the storm will determine exactly how much snow falls and where the highest totals occur, along with determining if freezing rain occurs in parts of central and east-central Illinois and northwest Indiana. Regardless of the exact snow amounts, the combination of snow and wind will make travel hazardous. Due to this threat a Winter Storm Watch has been issued starting Saturday morning through Sunday morning.

If you’re planning to travel, please plan accordingly and prepare for much longer travel times on snow/ice covered roads. If possible, consider traveling on Friday or on Sunday after snow removal.
