PORTER COUNTY — A juvenile was airlifted to an area hospital Monday evening following a crash involving an electric scooter and a vehicle at a busy Porter County intersection.

According to authorities, officers were dispatched at approximately 5:18 p.m. on April 13, 2026, to the intersection of U.S. Highway 6 and McCool Road for a reported collision between a vehicle and a juvenile operating an electric scooter. The juvenile sustained serious injuries and was transported from the scene by Lutheran Air. No update on the juvenile’s condition has been released.

Preliminary investigation and witness statements indicate a 2019 Ford Escape, driven by a 57-year-old female, was traveling northbound on McCool Road and proceeding through the intersection with U.S. 6. The collision occurred on the north side of the intersection. Authorities stated that at the time of the crash, both northbound and southbound traffic on McCool Road had a green light.

The Porter County Crash Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Officials noted that while a toxicology report is pending, drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.
