Munster police officers and Superior Ambulance paramedics responded around 9:45 p.m. Saturday to the 9300 block of Chestnut Lane for a reported shooting.

When officers arrived, they found an adult woman outside the home screaming for help after suffering a gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital, where she is believed to be in stable condition.
The suspected shooter, believed to be the victim’s husband, remained inside the residence. The Northwest Regional SWAT Team responded and successfully negotiated with the suspect, who exited the home and was taken into custody without incident.

Region News Source has learned the suspect is a former Illinois firefighter and previously served as a paramedic with an Illinois SWAT team. A dissolution of marriage was filed last month, according to court documents.
After the scene was secured, investigators requested assistance in evidence collection from the Indiana State Police. Search warrants were obtained for the residence and a vehicle on site, Munster Police stated Sunday morning. The suspect was transported to the Lake County Jail.
