Tieasha M. Scott, 40, of East Chicago; Kimberly D. Williams, 61, of Gary; and Willie Darnell Magee, 60,of Gary, have been charged following a Gary traffic stop that led to the recovery of cocaine, marijuana, psilocybin, drug-packaging materials and a loaded handgun that police said had been reported stolen.
According to court documents, at approximately 9:28 p.m. Thursday, August 6, 2026, Gary Police observed a white Chevrolet Tahoe traveling south on Van Buren Street disregard a stop sign near 6th Avenue. Police followed the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at 7th Avenue and Jackson Street. Scott, who was driving and was the sole occupant, immediately told police her driver’s license was suspended. Police said Scott repeatedly reached around inside the vehicle despite being instructed to stop reaching and place her hands on the steering wheel. Officers also reported smelling a strong odor of raw marijuana coming from the Tahoe.
Police said Scott continued reaching near the center console before they observed her holding a clear plastic bag containing a white rock-like substance. After repeated commands, Scott allegedly dropped the bag onto the driver’s-side floorboard and appeared to attempt to step on it in an effort to destroy it. Scott was removed from the Tahoe and placed in handcuffs. Police also allegedly observed suspected marijuana on the driver’s seat and believed the white rock-like substance Scott had been holding was crack cocaine.
While Scott was being detained, Williams and Magee allegedly approached the traffic stop on foot and attempted to interfere. Police repeatedly instructed the pair to leave the area, but they allegedly refused. As police attempted to manage the scene and maintain control of Scott and the suspected drug evidence, Scott allegedly kicked off her shoes, pulled away and fled south on Jackson Street while still handcuffed. Police chased Scott for approximately one block before she fell in the street and was taken back into custody.
As police escorted Scott back toward the Tahoe, Williams and Magee allegedly entered the vehicle and appeared to be attempting to remove evidence. Police repeatedly ordered them to stay out of the vehicle, but they allegedly refused. According to court documents, Scott then yelled to Williams and Magee to “take her purse and run.” Police detained all three as additional officers arrived.
During a subsequent search of the Tahoe, police recovered the suspected crack cocaine from the driver’s-side floorboard and Scott’s purse. Inside the purse, police allegedly found a loaded 9mm handgun with one live round in the chamber that was confirmed to have been reported stolen in Indianapolis. Police also recovered another bag containing a white rock-like substance near the firearm, along with two digital scales, a large quantity of clear plastic sandwich bags, three individually packaged bags of suspected marijuana and 10 individually packaged capsules containing suspected psilocybin mushrooms.
Police said the two bags containing the white rock-like substance had a gross weight of 9.5 grams and tested positive for cocaine. The three bags containing the green leafy substance had a gross weight of 14.1 grams and tested positive for THC/marijuana, while the 10 capsules had a gross weight of 10.1 grams and tested positive for psilocybin. Investigators also reported finding approximately $160 in small-denomination cash.
According to court documents, police alleged Williams and Magee intentionally interfered with the traffic stop, diverting the officer’s attention and creating an opportunity for Scott to flee while restrained. Police further alleged the pair entered Scott’s vehicle while she was being pursued and appeared to be attempting to remove or destroy evidence. Investigators recovered the Tahoe’s keys from Williams, and police said marijuana originally observed on the driver’s seat had been disturbed and dispersed in what appeared to be an effort to conceal or destroy evidence.
