The Lake County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the death of a 58-year-old woman as a result of Tuesday’s destructive storm.

Paula Plebanski, 58, was in a parking lot at 5223 E. Dunes Highway when she was struck by a piece of roofing that was torn from a nearby store during the storm.

A bystander called 911 at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Plebanski, who was homeless, was identified through a photograph with assistance from family.

The preliminary cause of death is multiple blunt-force injuries sustained during the storm, with toxicology results pending. Her manner of death has been ruled an accident.

This is the first storm-related fatality confirmed in Lake County following Tuesday’s widespread destructive winds and tornadoes.
