Raul Trujillo, 26, of Hammond, is facing felony drug charges after Dyer Police allegedly found nearly 30 grams of cocaine hidden inside the sunroof cover of a vehicle during a traffic stop.

According to court documents, a Dyer Police officer observed a Chrysler near the 600 block of Calumet Avenue with an obscured or shaded rear license plate. The officer reported that while attempting to check the plate, the driver suddenly braked and then quickly turned onto 210th Street in a manner the officer believed indicated an attempt to evade police.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and reported smelling burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle while approaching the driver, who was identified as Trujillo.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Trujillo told the officer he had a handgun on his person. Police identified the firearm as a Glock 21 and secured it during the stop. Trujillo also allegedly told the officer there were several marijuana joints inside the center console.

During a search of the vehicle, police discovered a bulge inside the sunroof cover that was determined to be a bag containing eight individually packaged baggies of a white substance weighing a combined 29.5 grams, according to court documents.

The substance later field-tested positive for cocaine. Police also reported finding a clear bag containing a green leafy substance that field-tested positive for marijuana, along with a scale.

Investigators alleged that the amount of cocaine, individual packaging, scale and possession of a firearm were indicative of an intent to deliver the cocaine.

Trujillo was lodged in the Lake County Jail on August 12, 2026.
