Nikola Colovic, 35, of Crown Point, was charged after an alleged road rage incident Sept. 9 in Crown Point in which a driver and a child passenger were spit on.

At approximately 7:11 p.m. Sept. 9, Crown Point Police were called to the area of Robinson Court and North West Street for a reported road rage incident.

According to court documents, the driver told police he was traveling south on West Street in a Honda Odyssey when a silver passenger car allegedly went through a stop sign at Robinson Court, causing him to slam on his brakes.

The driver said he flashed his headlights at the other vehicle and turned west onto Robinson Court. The other driver allegedly exited his vehicle, approached the passenger side of the Honda and began yelling.

A child under the age of 14 was sitting in the front passenger seat, according to court documents. The driver told police the man then spit on both him and the child. Police said they observed dried splatter on the window and side of the vehicle.

The driver provided a description of the man and information about the vehicle. Police subsequently identified Colovic as the suspected driver and connected him to a silver Hyundai Elantra, according to court documents.

At approximately 8:27 p.m., police reported seeing a silver Hyundai pull into a parking lot in the 100 block of North West Street, where Colovic’s listed address is located. A man exited, opened a detached garage and then backed the vehicle inside.

According to court documents, an officer approached in a marked police vehicle and began walking toward the garage when the garage door allegedly slammed shut from the inside.

Police knocked on the garage, identified themselves and repeatedly ordered the man to come outside and speak with officers but received no response. Police reported they remained at the scene and did not observe anyone leave the garage.
