HAMMOND – On October 22, 2026, Keith Kevin Maynie, 27 years old, of Munster, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Philip P. Simon after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, announced United States Attorney Adam L. Mildred.
Maynie was sentenced to 42 months in prison followed by one year of supervised release.
According to documents in the case, on January 19, 2025, Muster Police Department observed a car driven by Maynie repeatedly disregard stop signs and travelling at high speeds through residential areas. Law enforcement conducted a traffic stop and arrested Maynie for outstanding arrest warrants. During the search of the car, a loaded semi-automatic pistol was recovered from the glove compartment. Maynie has multiple felony convictions, including previous convictions for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
“Keith Maynie has been held accountable for a blatant and dangerous disregard for the law and the safety of our community. As a convicted felon, Maynie knew he was strictly prohibited from possessing a firearm. Yet, a mere six months after being released from prison for a previous firearms conviction, he chose to arm himself once again. Maynie’s actions did not end with illegal possession. In an effort to evade accountability, he engaged in a high-speed pursuit that needlessly endangered the lives of brave law enforcement officers and innocent commuters alike. This reckless behavior underscores exactly why federal firearms laws exist. The U.S. Attorney’s Office and our law enforcement partners will continue to aggressively prosecute repeat offenders who jeopardize the safety of our neighborhoods. We are committed to removing both illegal guns and dangerous individuals from our streets,” said U.S. Attorney Adam L. Mildred.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives with assistance from the Munster Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ambris Saravanan.
