4 Homes Damaged In Large Fire Near Valparaiso

Around 1:15PM Tuesday firefighters were called to the 400 block of Scarborough Road for a structure fire just outside Valparaiso in Union Township, Shorewood Forest subdivision.

A large home was seen fully involved in flames and later had to be tore down due to the damage, according to an eyewitness. The strong winds carried embers across the lake in the Shorewood Forest subdivision starting two more homes on fire on Surry Hill Lane. Another home suffered minor damage from the neighboring fire, according to RNS videographer on scene. One resident had minor injuries and refused treatment but two dogs were lost in the fire. The initial cause of the original fire is under investigation but neighbors reported hearing some kind of explosion.

Crews from multiple agencies worked through the evening from Valparaiso, Union Township, Liberty Township, South Haven, Portage, Lake Hills, Four Seasons, Boone Grove, Washington Township, and Morgan Township.
