50 Kilos Of Cocaine Found In Semi On 94

PORTER COUNTY- Monday afternoon at approximately 1:15 p.m., Indiana State Police Troopers responded to the I-94 East Bound Weigh Station at the request of the Motor Carrier Division, according to Sgt. Glen Fifield of The Indiana State Police.

Inspectors were completing a Level 2 inspection on a commercial motor vehicle when the contents inside the trailer raised their suspicions.  A 2016 Volvo, owned/operated by American Roadies Inc., based out of San Jose, California, was pulling a trailer loaded with 18,000 lbs. of minced garlic.  As the inspector looked in the trailer, he observed what appeared to be a black case which was inconsistent with the rest of the freight.  A visual inspection of the case revealed several packages of a white substance.  Additional investigation revealed that the substance field tested positive for the presence of cocaine.  The occupants of the truck were taken into custody without incident.  A total of 50 kilos of suspected cocaine was recovered from the trailer.  The inspection was completed with numerous violations being noted and the truck being impounded.  The estimated street value of this seizure is approximately $1.5 to $2 million dollars, Fifield said.

Charged with Possession of Cocaine, Level 3 Felony, were Singh, Baljinder, 37, from Indio, CA and Singh, Gurwinder, 32, from Riverside, CA.  Both subjects were incarcerated at the Porter County Jail.  Assisting at the scene was the ISP ACP (All Crimes Policing) Team, Porter County Sheriff’s Department, ISP Motor Carrier Division and Cloverleaf Towing.

All persons named in this release are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court. All charges mentioned are merely accusations, actual charges will be determined by the Porter County Prosecutor’s Office.
