Lynwood Officer Run Over By Porch Pirate Friday

On Friday, December 4th at approximately 12:30PM Lynwood Police responded to a call of subjects removing packages from porches, according to Deputy Chief Lawrence Weinbrecht of The Lynwood Police.

While responding in the area a Lynwood Officer observed the subjects in the act of committing this crime. The officer quickly detained a male subject who was caught in the act. As officers approached a vehicle occupied with a female driver near this scene the female placed the vehicle into drive and accelerated at a high rate of speed striking an officer head on with the vehicle, Weinbrecht stated. The officer sustained non life threatening injuries due to his efforts to avoid the vehicle. A Sergeant on scene rendered aid to the injured officer while another officer arriving gave pursuit to the female.

The pursuit ended in Lansing near Torrence & I-80 where the female attempted to bail on foot but was apprehended with assistance from the Lansing Police.

Both suspects were wanted by numerous surrounding agencies for similar incidents, police told RNS. The male suspect was charged with theft as well as having a warrant for his arrest. The female has been charged with Attempted First Degree Murder of a Police Officer and Aggravated Battery of Police Officer with Great Bodily Harm.
