58 Year Old Illinois Man Dies After Being Struck By Car On 41
Shortly before 8:00 pm on Monday March 9, 2020, St. John Police were dispatched to a vehicle accident with possible injuries in the 8100 Block of US 41, Roger Patz of The St. John Police said. As officers arrived, they observed a gathering of people on the inside northbound lane, standing around a white male who was laying on the roadway. A passerby had stopped to render aid and was performing CPR on the male. Officers took over CPR until an ambulance arrived and the male was then taken to Franciscan Hospital in Dyer, where he was later pronounced deceased, Patz stated. Preliminary investigation has determined that the male victim was 58 years old and had an Illinois driver’s license in his possession.
The victim was apparently attempting to walk across US 41 after leaving a local restaurant when he was struck by a vehicle that was travelling northbound. The vehicle was driven by a 21-year-old Crown Point man who remained at the scene.
Lake County Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction Team was requested and responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing, Patz said.
