Aaron Daniel Miller, 43, of Michigan City, was charged July 6 in LaPorte County with attempted burglary, residential entry, and theft following an incident on the 300 block of Bolka Avenue on the afternoon of July 4.

According to court documents, Michigan City Police were dispatched at approximately 3:00 p.m. to the 300 block of Bolka Avenue for a reported burglary in progress. Officers located Miller at the front of a neighboring residence and detained him while speaking with the reporting party.

Police said the reporting party told officers Miller took two plastic baseball bats from outside her residence and used them to knock on her 10-year-old son’s bedroom window before striking a window near the front door. When confronted by the homeowner and told to stop, Miller allegedly stepped back, stared at her, removed his shirt, and walked toward the residence. The homeowner then went back inside, closed the door, and called 911. Ring doorbell video allegedly showed Miller attempting to gain entry to the residence while holding the two baseball bats before dropping them and stepping away.

According to the affidavit, surveillance video from a neighboring residence allegedly showed Miller approaching the front door carrying a metal chair and the two baseball bats. Court documents allege Miller knocked on the door and stated, “Hi, I’m just going to come in and rob your house real quick, it’s just a bit I am doing, so I hope you don’t mind. If not, you can talk to God about it, he will pay for it. Okay, thank you. Hey can you open up, so I can bust some shit up in here, or is that not what we are doing here?”

The affidavit further alleges Miller attempted to open the front door before stating, “I wanted to come in and rob you and break your stuff, is that cool? Oh, no I would rather not have that.” Police also allege Miller stood at the front door with his eyes closed, folded a blanket, and took candy from the front steps of the residence.

Lodged in the Laporte County Jail.
