Illinois State Police Assist Calumet City Police With Arrests
Illinois State Police Troopers assisted the Calumet City Police Department in the arrest of two suspects wanted for Armed Robbery and the Chicago Police Department in the arrest of three suspects wanted for a vehicular hijacking, according to Illinois State Police.
On January 11, 2022, at approximately 11:33 p.m., the Illinois State Police Emergency Response Network (ISPERN) broadcasted information involving a vehicle fleeing the scene of an armed robbery in Calumet City, Illinois. The Illinois State Police Air Operations was able to locate and track the vehicle from Interstate 94 northbound at East Sibley Boulevard to the South Suburbs and back to Chicago. Two suspects exited the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene on foot. ISP units in the area quickly responded, and after a brief pursuit, were able to take two suspects into custody. One of the two suspects was taken into custody by K9 apprehension. A weapon was recovered during the incident. Both suspects were transported to the Cook County Jail.
On January 13, 2022, at approximately 12:01 a.m., an ISP Trooper observed a vehicle, reported to be stolen during an aggravated vehicular hijacking that occurred in Chicago on Jan. 12, 2022, at approximately 12:27 p.m., while traveling on Interstate 94 northbound at 83rd Street. An ISP Trooper attempted a traffic stop on Interstate 290 westbound at Sacramento. The suspect vehicle fled onto Interstate 290 eastbound towards downtown Chicago. ISP Troopers stopped the suspect vehicle in the area of 55th and Michigan Avenue. Three juvenile suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, ISP Troopers were able to take all three suspects into custody. One suspect was transported to a local area hospital due to an injury from a K9 apprehension.
“The ISP has a multitude of resources available to help identify, apprehend, and convict individuals who flee on the Chicagoland expressways,” stated ISP District Chicago Captain David Keltner.“We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to stop those who threaten the safety of motorists in Chicago and across the state.”
