Caprice Edward Cashaw, 32, has agreed to plead guilty to two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder in connection with the March 30, 2025, mass shooting at the Portside Pub on the 1500 block of Indianapolis Boulevard in Hammond that left two people dead and three others wounded.

According to court records, the violence began during a domestic dispute outside the bar involving Cashaw and a woman. When several patrons attempted to intervene and help the woman, Cashaw retrieved a Glock 17 9mm handgun with a 30-round extended magazine and opened fire. He then continued shooting inside the bar as victims attempted to flee.

Paul Olivares and Lorraine Reyna were killed in the attack. Three others survived after suffering gunshot wounds. Court records state Jamison was struck approximately 10 times, Gaeta suffered gunshot wounds to the neck and stomach, and Monroe was shot in the upper leg.

Investigators previously alleged Cashaw fired more than 20 rounds outside the establishment before entering the bar and continuing to shoot. During a police interview, Cashaw admitted he intentionally fired at the victims and acknowledged he knew other people were nearby when he opened fire.

Under the negotiated plea agreement, Cashaw will plead guilty to two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder. He will receive two life-without-parole sentences for the murder convictions and 40 years for each attempted murder conviction. All sentences will be served concurrently in the Indiana Department of Correction. As part of the agreement, prosecutors will no longer seek the death penalty, and firearm sentencing enhancements will be dismissed.
