According to court documents, Arcadio Leon Sanchez, 44, of Gary, has been charged following an incident in the 2500 block of West 10th Place in Gary in which investigators allege he struck a woman while completely nude except for a sock covering his penis, in an area near a church where a child was present.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the incident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. on June 9. Court records allege the woman and a juvenile family member went to Sanchez’s residence to visit relatives who lived there. Investigators allege Sanchez became upset over the woman’s presence, prompting the woman to leave the property. The woman then walked to an alley behind a nearby church and began calling toward the residence, asking a relative to repay $20 that was allegedly owed. Court documents state the woman was no longer on Sanchez’s property at that time.

Investigators allege Sanchez then went back inside the residence, removed his clothing, and returned outside completely nude except for a sock covering his penis. According to court documents, Sanchez approached the woman and struck her in the right side of the face, leaving a red mark, redness and a bump on her upper right cheek. The woman reported feeling a burning sensation after being struck.

Court records allege the juvenile who accompanied the woman witnessed Sanchez in a state of nudity in an area that was easily visible to other people near the church. According to the affidavit, the woman later called a family member crying and frightened, asking to be picked up from the scene.
