Adriana E. Cisneros Velazquez, 32, is accused of striking her husband with a vehicle and stabbing him outside the Lake County Government Center after he left divorce court.
According to court documents, the incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. Monday, August 24, in the government center parking lot in Crown Point.
An eyewitness told investigators he saw a man driving a motorcycle erratically through the parking lot before observing a gray Honda accelerate and aim directly at him. The Honda allegedly struck the motorcycle, throwing the rider into the air and onto the vehicle.
The eyewitness reportedly saw the Honda drag the man for a short distance before he broke free. The vehicle then traveled into a grassy area and became immobilized after striking something else.
The woman driving the Honda allegedly exited the vehicle and attacked the motorcycle rider with a knife. According to the eyewitness, the man disarmed her and began striking her before the two were separated.
The injured man told investigators he and Cisneros Velazquez are married but going through a divorce. He said he had just left divorce court when he got onto his motorcycle and attempted to leave the parking lot.
The man reportedly saw Cisneros Velazquez driving through the parking lot and was afraid to pull in front of her. He stopped and waited to see whether she would pass him, but she allegedly accelerated and struck him.
The man said he flew into the air and landed on the Honda before being dragged by the vehicle. After breaking free, he saw the Honda travel into a grassy area and become disabled.
Cisneros Velazquez allegedly exited the Honda and attacked him while armed with a knife. The man told investigators he defended himself until they were separated.
The man reportedly did not realize he had been stabbed until emergency-room personnel discovered a puncture wound to his left bicep. Investigators observed the wound and noted that his heavy motorcycle jacket was blood-soaked in the same area.
Medical records reportedly documented a stab wound, motor-vehicle crash injuries, a wrist sprain and an adductor muscle strain. Investigators also observed several cuts and scrapes on the man’s legs and knees that were attributed to being dragged by the Honda.
Police recovered a black retractable knife from the scene. The knife was reportedly located behind Cisneros Velazquez and just beyond her reach.
Investigators later reviewed surveillance footage covering the southeastern portion of the parking lot. The video allegedly showed the Honda waiting until the motorcycle stopped before accelerating and turning directly toward it.
The footage reportedly showed the motorcycle rider being struck and dragged before breaking free. The Honda then traveled into a grassy area, where Cisneros Velazquez allegedly exited and attacked the man.
Investigators attempted to question Cisneros Velazquez at a local hospital. After being advised of her rights, she invoked them and declined to discuss the incident, according to court documents.
