Kendall Dale Archie, 32, of Country Club Hills, Illinois, has been charged in Lake County following a pursuit that began in Gary and ended in Illinois during the early morning hours of June 19, according to court documents.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a Lake County Sheriff’s Department deputy observed a red Nissan Sentra being driven erratically near 29th Avenue and Burr Street at approximately 2:19 a.m. Police said the vehicle crossed left of center, failed to maintain its lane and made an abrupt turn into the Mr. Fuel gas station. During the traffic stop, the deputy allegedly detected a strong odor of raw marijuana and observed what appeared to be marijuana residue on Archie’s groin area.

Court records state Archie claimed he did not have his driver’s license and identified himself as “Kenny Collins” with a birth date of September 11, 1994. Deputies said he appeared nervous and repeatedly glanced toward the gear shifter while manipulating his cellphone. Before officers could verify the information, Archie allegedly put the Nissan in drive and fled.

Authorities allege Archie accelerated onto Interstate 80/94 westbound, reaching speeds exceeding 130 mph while weaving through traffic and using both shoulders to pass vehicles. The pursuit continued into Illinois and onto Interstate 294, where police said Archie lost control of the Nissan near the Halsted Street exit and crashed into an embankment before officers could complete a PIT maneuver.

According to court records, Archie then fled on foot through a grassy area and ignored commands to stop. Officers eventually caught up with him near a guardrail. Police said a deputy deployed a Taser twice after Archie continued refusing commands and officers were unable to see his hands. Authorities said Archie ultimately dropped to his knees and lay on his stomach, allowing officers to take him into custody.

After being treated at a local hospital, investigators searched the Nissan and reported finding suspected marijuana, a marijuana cigar, suspected psilocybin mushrooms, multiple fraudulent checks and credit cards that allegedly did not belong to Archie.

Lodged in the Lake County Jail.
