CROWN POINT — An 85-year-old man was taken into custody Sunday night after his wife was shot during a domestic dispute at a home in unincorporated Crown Point, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department.

Lake County Sheriff’s police were dispatched sometime after 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, to the 12200 block of Burr Street following a report of an armed man who may have shot his wife.

When officers arrived, they learned the 69-year-old woman had suffered a gunshot wound but was able to escape from the home.

Officers secured the area and established contact with the woman’s 85-year-old husband, who remained inside the residence. The man eventually walked out the front door and was taken into custody without further incident.

Police later recovered a revolver from inside the home.

The woman was transported to an area hospital with a gunshot wound to her shoulder. Her condition was last reported as stable.

Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. thanked officers from several agencies who assisted at the scene, crediting their “hard work and professionalism” with helping make the arrest and preventing additional injuries.

The shooting remains under investigation. Authorities said no additional details are being released at this time.
