Genah Michelle Simpson, 58, of Crown Point, is facing charges after police allege she led officers on a high-speed pursuit through Lake County that reached 117 mph.

According to court records, an officer observed Simpson’s vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed near Broadway and U.S. 30 in Merrillville at approximately 8:53 a.m. on June 2. Court documents allege the vehicle crossed onto the shoulder multiple times, braked hard to avoid striking another vehicle, followed another motorist at less than a car length, and accelerated back to speeds exceeding 100 mph.

Police allege emergency lights and sirens were activated near the 73rd Avenue overpass, but the vehicle continued northbound past the 61st Avenue and Ridge Road exits before entering westbound Interstate 80/94.

According to court records, the pursuit ended on the shoulder of westbound I-80/94 near the Broadway exit. Simpson, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Lake County Jail.
