Reynaldo Ocampo Delgado, 29, of Calumet City, Illinois, is accused of fleeing from police on an electric bicycle and striking a patrol vehicle on October 29, 2026, after an officer saw him riding on posted Norfolk Southern Railroad property near the Plum Creek Bike Path in Schererville at approximately 5:38 p.m..
The affidavit says the officer was beneath the U.S. 41 overpass when he saw Delgado riding west on the railroad property. As Delgado passed, the officer saw tattoos on his face and hands, opened the patrol vehicle door and called for him to stop and return. Delgado slowed and looked back, then yelled and sped north on the bike path. The officer activated emergency lights and siren and began following him.
Delgado rode through Plum Creek Park and nearby residential areas, including the Wood Hollow Court area. The affidavit says he rode between buildings and through residential yards, at one point passing between Halloween decorations. While riding on Wood Hollow Drive, he repeatedly looked back and yelled, “I’m Illegal,” as the officer continued ordering him to stop over the patrol vehicle’s public-address system.
The pursuit continued toward Centennial Park in Munster. The affidavit says Delgado saw Munster police vehicles near the park’s left turnoff, rode off the path and across the grass, then continued north on the bike path. He later rode along Calumet Avenue, through parking lots and into a hospital parking lot before crossing Calumet Avenue and continuing west along Fisher Street.
Near Harrison Avenue and Old Stone Road, an officer positioned a patrol vehicle across part of the sidewalk but left room for Delgado to pass. The affidavit says Delgado went past the left side of the patrol vehicle, continued north on the sidewalk and then returned to the roadway. He repeatedly turned around, raised his arm and yelled toward police.
Near Briar Lane, two officers got out of another patrol vehicle and attempted to take Delgado into custody as he slowed and tried to make a U-turn. The officer heard a broadcast that a Taser had been deployed but was unsuccessful, according to the affidavit. Delgado fled south on Harrison Avenue, passed between two police vehicles near Cedar Court and attempted to turn onto Fisher Place. The affidavit says he struck the side of a patrol vehicle that was also turning onto Fisher Place. Officers then took him into custody.
While seated on the ground in handcuffs, Delgado told officers he had an active warrant. Dispatch later confirmed the warrant. An ambulance crew evaluated him and transported him to a hospital, where he underwent testing. The affidavit says hospital testing found no signs of injury. At the Lake County Jail, he was evaluated again and cleared to remain. His electric bicycle was towed.
The current Lake County case was filed October 30, 2026, and is pending.
