I-94 Near 79th Is Reopened After Police Stand Off
Illinois State Police have reopened Northbound direction of I-94 near 79th Exit after a Chicago Police Stand Off. Southbound traffic remains diverted as of 9:30PM. All lanes reopened as of 9:45pm.
Chicago Police were attempting to stop a man with a knife after numerous concerned calls to 911. The suspect got into the fenced Red Line tracks located in the middle of I-94 and wouldn’t follow commands from police. Chicago brought SWAT and a hostage negotiator which was followed by Illinois State Police closing both directions of the expressway around 2:48pm. As of 8:15pm police tasered the man and he was taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment by CFD. He later passed in the hospital from self inflicted wounds.
