A Lake County jury has found Lamont Turentine guilty of murder and a firearm enhancement in connection with the December 13, 2019 shooting death of Tyran Bolling in Hammond.

According to court records, Hammond Police were called to the 4400 block of Henry Avenue around 12:15 a.m. after Bolling was shot multiple times outside a residence. He was transported to St. Margaret’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Investigators said Bolling had been inside the home shortly before the shooting and told his girlfriend he was leaving because his ride had arrived. Moments later, witnesses reported seeing an older black vehicle pull up outside before the driver opened fire. Six 9mm shell casings were recovered from the scene.

Court records stated that Facebook Messenger records showed Bolling had been communicating with Emani Edwards shortly before his death, and that Edwards had told him she was getting “Ski’s car,” referring to Turentine. Bolling provided the Henry Avenue address minutes before the shooting.

Investigators later connected Turentine to a black 1998 Honda Civic, which was captured by cameras traveling from Chicago into Hammond shortly before the shooting, near the crime scene minutes before Bolling was killed, and then back toward Chicago shortly afterward.

The investigation also found that Bolling, Edwards, and Turentine knew each other, and court records alleged the shooting stemmed from Bolling’s relationship with Edwards, who was also involved with Turentine.

Ballistics testing later determined that the six shell casings recovered from the Hammond murder scene were fired from the same firearm as casings previously recovered outside a Chicago residence linked to Turentine, Edwards, and another associate.

Lake County Prosecutor Bernard A. Carter credited the prosecution team, Hammond Police, crime scene investigators, state and federal law enforcement partners, forensic experts, and analysts who assisted in securing the conviction.

Turentine is scheduled to be sentenced on June 25, 2026.
