Desirae Anna Delvalle, 28, of Portage, is facing multiple felony charges after Munster police said she was driving recklessly while intoxicated with two young children inside her vehicle.

According to court documents, officers were dispatched around 12:07 p.m. on April 5 to the area of Calumet Avenue and Main Street in Munster for a report of a reckless driver involving a black 2019 Honda Civic. The caller reported the vehicle was “bouncing off curbs and swerving” while traveling northbound on Calumet Avenue.

Police located the vehicle near Fran Lin Parkway and observed it accelerate quickly from a traffic light while struggling to maintain its lane of travel. Court documents state the officer reached speeds of about 60 mph in a 35 mph zone while attempting to catch up to the vehicle. Investigators said the Honda crossed over the lane line near the 9000 block of Calumet Avenue before a traffic stop was initiated.

According to the affidavit, the vehicle did not immediately stop after emergency lights were activated. Police said the driver eventually pulled into a parking lot near 901 MacArthur Boulevard.

Investigators identified the driver as Delvalle. Court documents state officers smelled raw marijuana coming from the vehicle and observed two young children seated in car seats in the back seat, including one forward-facing and one rear-facing seat.

Police said Delvalle had difficulty locating her driver’s license and officers observed an open plastic bottle inside her purse. When questioned, investigators said Delvalle initially claimed she only had “juice and water,” but officers reported the bottle contained a clear liquid smelling of coconut alcohol.

According to court documents, Delvalle agreed to standardized field sobriety tests. Police said she displayed multiple indicators of impairment during the horizontal gaze nystagmus, walk-and-turn and one-leg stand tests.

Investigators said Delvalle later submitted to a portable breath test which showed a result of 0.131%.

Court documents state Delvalle initially agreed to take a certified chemical breath test but later refused after arriving at the Munster Police Department. Police said she became upset after being handcuffed and told officers she would not get into the squad car before saying goodbye to her daughters.

During an inventory search of Delvalle’s purse, investigators reported finding two THC vape devices labeled “High Supply” and “Muha Meds,” a grinder containing suspected marijuana residue and a jar labeled “Dabhouse Records Live Resin Indica.”

Police said the children, born in 2022 and 2024, were released to their father.

Lodged in the Lake County Jail on May 7,2026.
