Colleen J. Kozubal, 67, of Hammond, is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after police alleged she threatened a neighbor while holding a revolver during a neighborhood dispute in the 6600 block of Arkansas Avenue.

According to court documents, police were dispatched around 2:35 p.m. on May 5, 2026, after a resident reported that his neighbor came outside with a handgun and told him she would “unlock it.”

Court documents state officers arrived and encountered Kozubal walking toward police while holding a black Smith and Wesson .38 Special revolver. Police alleged officers removed the handgun from her possession and later determined the firearm was unloaded.

According to the affidavit, the neighbor told police he heard Kozubal “screaming outside” before he went into the backyard area of his residence to take trash out. Court documents state the two began arguing before the man later returned outside wearing a Michael Myers-style mask and started dancing in his backyard because he believed Kozubal was “jerking around.”

Police alleged Kozubal then exited her residence holding the revolver and warned the man, “If you fucking mess with me, I’m gonna take the lock off,” referring to disengaging the handgun safety. According to court documents, the man immediately ran back inside his residence, bolted the door and called 911 because he feared for his life.

Investigators stated surveillance footage reviewed during the investigation allegedly showed Kozubal holding the revolver in the man’s direction while warning she would “take the lock off” if the neighbors kept bothering her.

Court documents state the neighbor later told police, “Now that I know she has a gun, I’m worried now,” and “I’m scared shitless.” Police alleged Kozubal responded by telling him, “You’d best be.”

According to the affidavit, Kozubal allegedly told officers that her “neighbors were terrorizing her” and claimed “that she did not point the handgun at them.” Court documents state Kozubal also allegedly told police “that she came home and knew that her neighbors were watching her” and “that she did not make any threats towards” the neighbor, “only that she had a gun and brought it out.”

Police further alleged Kozubal claimed “that she only held her handgun in the palm of her hand” and later stated she brought the handgun outside “to get her neighbors to leave her alone.” Investigators additionally stated Kozubal repeatedly told officers the handgun was “locked.”
