Raheem Carter, 22, of Michigan City, has been charged after police investigated a social media video that allegedly showed him possessing and firing a machine gun.
According to court documents, police became aware of a social media video on May 14 allegedly showing an individual possessing and operating a machine gun. Investigators stated they identified the individual in the video as Carter through prior law enforcement contact. Police said the video depicted Carter exiting a vehicle and firing a black handgun in several automatic bursts while retreating away from a black Ford Fusion.
Investigators determined the Ford Fusion shown in the video was registered to Carter and bore an Indiana temporary license plate. Police also learned Carter was frequently seen at a residence in the 1300 block of Franklin Street in Michigan City.
Court records state officers later conducted surveillance at the location and observed Carter enter the vehicle and leave with two other individuals. A short time later, officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Police alleged Carter was found with a black handgun equipped with a machine gun conversion device attached to the rear of the firearm’s slide. The firearm was reportedly located inside the front of his pants.
