A 41-year-old Burns Harbor woman was killed Wednesday afternoon in a head-on crash on State Road 39 in La Porte County, according to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched at approximately 4:02 p.m. to State Road 39 south of County Road 1500 South for a reported two-vehicle crash. The initial on-scene investigation conducted by Deputy Alex Clemons and assisting deputies determined that a red 2013 Hyundai Sonata was traveling northbound on SR 39 when it crossed left of center and collided head-on with a southbound gray 2015 Jeep Wrangler.
The driver of the Hyundai, identified as Sarah J. Geressy, 41, of Burns Harbor, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep, identified as Grace E. Crone, 23, of La Porte, sustained a lower body injury in the crash.
Authorities said toxicology test results are pending. No additional information was immediately released.
Assisting agencies included Sergeant Keith Wilson, Detective Sergeant James Lear, Deputies Michael Sweet, Austin Howell, and Jet Balenia, the Westville Police Department, Hanna and Noble Township Volunteer Fire Departments, La Porte County EMS, the La Porte County Coroner’s Office, and John’s Garage.
